Not only are some cleaning supplies extremely expensive, many contain a number of chemicals that you don’t want or need for cleaning projects. One natural solution that you can use for a number of housekeeping projects, is salt. Curious to find out what all you can clean with salt? Read on further now.

1.Rust stains

Mix salt with lemon juice or vinegar to get rid of rust stains in a jiffy. First make sure the stain is completely dry. Using a lemon? Squeeze it over the stain and then cover the lemon juice with a layer of salt. Let it sit for half an hour and then clean it up with a cloth or sponge. Rinse it off if needed. Using vinegar? First mix the salt with a spoonful or more of vinegar and spread this mixture on the rust stain. Let it sit and after a while brush it away with an old toothbrush. The same thing goes for this method, you can rinse it off afterwards for an extra clean result.

2. Calcium buildup

The combination of salt and lemon is a top tier warrior in the fight against calcium buildup. Having problems with buildup on your showerhead or the kitchen sink? Sprinkle salt onto half of a lemon and rub it on the chrome or copper surfaces. This method has an extra benefit when used on copper: it fights discoloring. Perfect!

3. Sweat stains

It happens to all of us, but it’s still not fun: sweat stains in your clothes. Thankfully, we can make them disappear like snow in the sun with a bit of salt and warm water. Mix four tablespoons of salt with a liter of warm water and soak the garment in it. Attention: this remedy doesn’t work for all clothing. Fragile fabrics like satin can’t be placed in salt.

4. Cutting board

After a while, cutting boards can get pretty dirty. While you may wash them after every use, it’s hard to get them looking like new. And then you’ve got wood cutting boards- you can’t put them in the dishwasher making them even harder to get completely clean. Thankfully, we’ve got a nifty trick to fix that. The salt and lemon combination does wonders for cutting boards, too. Sprinkle some salt on the cutting board and rub it in using a lemon. This will help get out even the hardest of stains.

5. Clogged drains

Having troubles with clogged drains? You don’t need to go out and buy an expensive drain cleaner. Just a bit of salt is enough. Put salt in the drains and rinse it thoroughly with warm water for two minutes. Good as new!

6. Coffee and tea stains

Can’t seem to get your mugs completely clean no matter how hard you try? Salt will do the trick here, too. Put some salt on a damp cloth and rub it on the stains. In no time your mugs will be spotless!

7. Absorbing stains

Salt works on all kinds of stains. It’s especially good at picking up and absorbing stains. Spill something on the rug? Quickly sprinkle some salt on the stain. This will help make the stains easier to get out.

8. A scrub

The point of taking a shower is to get clean. So, it makes sense to want to get rid of your dead skin cells too. You could go out and buy a scrub, but all the microplastics they put in them aren’t good for the environment. Sea salt, on the other hand, gets the job done as well. Take 100 grams of sea salt and mix it with 100 milliliters of oil. This could be almond oil, argan oil, or coconut oil. Then add a few drops of essential oils to give your scrub a nice scent. Mix it well and you can use your new scrub!
